HILO, Hawai’i The developer of the Hokuli’a luxury home project has agreed to pay a $200,000 fine for allowing muddy storm runoff from its Kona construction site to flow into the ocean in 2000.
Ship master disobeyed rules day of grounding
The captain of the 550-foot bulk cargo vessel Cape Flattery that ran aground Feb. 2, 2005, violated maritime law and his own company’s policies when he tried to enter the Kalaeloa Barbers Point channel without a harbor pilot, according to the ship’s owners.
Environmental catastrophe warning
Larger cruise ships coming to Bermuda could spell an environmental and economic disaster. The warning was sounded yesterday by the Bermuda National Trust (BNT).
